Alan H. Porter, M.D., F.A.C.R
Certified in Therapeutic Radiology by the American College of Radiology

Dr. Porter has directed the Radiation Oncology Centers since 1975. He is board certified and a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is listed "Best Doctors in America", 1996 to 2010 (Woodard and White).

Dr. Porter received his B.S. (Chemistry), M.S. (Radiation Physics), and M.D. (Medicine) at the University of Florida. He completed Residency at the University of Florida with additional training at M.D. Anderson Hospital. He served as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor. Dr. Porter is Past Presidents of the Florida Radiological Society (FRS); Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO); Sarasota County Medical and American Cancer Societies.

Dr. Porter is a founding trustee of Hospice Foundation of Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte Counties. Currently he is a member of the Physicians Advisory Council and consultant to Medicare-Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Florida.

Dale G. Lakomy, M.D.
Certified in Therapeutic Radiology by the American College of Radiology

Dr. Lakomy joined Sarasota Oncology in July 2003.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University in Electrical and Computer Engineering. After graduation, he accepted a position as Research Engineer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He then returned for graduate studies, and obtained a Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of NY Upstate Medical Center. A medical internship program was completed at the Baylor College of Medicine, and a radiation oncology residency program was completed at the University of Arizona.

From 1994 through 2001, Dr Lakomy was Medical Director of the Good Samaritan Medical Center Radiation Therapy Center in West Palm Beach, FL. During his term at Good Samaritan, he was granted an academic appointment at the Duke University Medical Center as Adjunct Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology. He served as course director of a multidisciplinary thoracic oncology conference in collaboration with Duke University Medical Center. Gamma Knife Radiosurgery is an area of special expertise for Dr. Lakomy, with specialized training received at the University of Pittsburgh. For two years prior to joining Sarasota Oncology, he successfully developed a clinical treatment program for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) at a Metroeast St Louis area cancer center. IMRT is an advanced treatment methodology for the treatment of cancers of the brain, head and neck, breast, and pelvis.

Kenneth A. Kaplan, M.D.
Certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology.
 
Certified in Nuclear Medicine by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine
 
Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine

Dr. Kaplan joined (R.O.C.) in December 2003.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and his M.D. degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine was done at Lettennan Army Medical Center, San Francisco, CA.

Dr. Kaplan as Assistant Chief, Nuclear Medicine and Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Augusta, GA. He was as Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiology, Medical College of Georgia.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Bethesda, OH. this was the site of Dr. Kaplan's Radiation Oncology training. He served as Attending Physician at Walter Reed Army Medical Center following his NCI training.

From 1991 through late 2003 Dr. Kaplan was an Attending Physician at Forum Health, a large multi-hospital system in Northeastern Ohio. He served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at Northeast Ohio University College of Medicine.

Dr. Kaplan has demonstrated a broad scope of clinical expertise in both adult and pediatric Oncology. He started an Intracoronary Brachytherapy program while in Ohio and has extensive Prostate Brachytherapy experience using real-time techniques.

Dr. Kaplan has been active in local Hospice and American Cancer Society activities prior to joining Radiation Oncology Center.

Kim Arnold, R.N. 

Kim comes to us from Huntsville, Alabama, with a rich background in Radiation Oncology.

Kim's 12 years of nursing has provided her with extensive experience. In addition to direct patient care, she has assisted in surgical and special procedures at The Cancer Institute, Huntsville Hospital and Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Calhoun College and is licensed in both Florida and Alabama.
